The Brussels Voice 23 panel

THE BRUSSELS VOICE 23 PANEL

We invited International Brusselers to join the adventure of Brussels Voice 23 by becoming a member of our panel. 600 people applied for the 45 places! Read on to learn how we selected the members of the panel.

Note: Registrations are now closed.

Who can participate?

Brussels Voice aims to give all International Brusselers a voice in regional policy. To participate in the workshops of Brussels Voice 23, you don’t need any special knowledge or skills – just a wish to build a better Brussels and enough time to attend all the sessions. However, you do need to meet these criteria:

  • You are not a Belgian national. (This means that dual nationals with both Belgian and another citizenship are not able to participate this year.)
  • You have lived in Brussels for at least one year.
  • You are at least 16 years old.
  • Sign up before 16 July

If you don’t meet these criteria, but still want to stay up to date on our future activities, sign up for our newsletter. And if you have already become a Belgian national, make sure to vote in all the elections of 2024!

The first cycle of Brussels Voice used online consultations and open workshops to develop the Manifesto and its proposals. We reached around 1500 people and developed some excellent ideas. This time we’re trying something new, with a more focused panel of International Brusselers participating in the whole cycle. Like many cutting-edge democratic participation projects, we’ll be selecting participants by sortition (drawing lots). People who want to take part can register online, then we’ll randomly select 45 International Brusselers to join the panel and participate in all the sessions.

Participants will be chosen at random among all valid candidates, with filters applied to ensure a diverse group in terms of:

  • Gender
  • Age
  • Nationality
  • Commune of residence in the Brussels-Capital Region
  • Level of education and qualification

If you are selected to participate, we’ll contact you in July to confirm that you still want to be involved. Then we’ll see you again for the workshops in September and October.

Brussels Voice 23 will begin with three evening workshops at the commissioner.brussels office near Schuman, where participants will work together to develop updated recommendations.

  • Tuesday 12 September 2023: 18.00 – 21.00
  • Tuesday 19 September 2023: 18.00 – 21.00
  • Tuesday 26 September 2023: 18.00 – 21.00

We will complete the programme with a full-day deliberative session at the Brussels Parliament, where participants will discuss and debate with Members of Parliament to finalise the recommendations.

  • Saturday 14 October: time to be confirmed, but it will not extend late into the evening

Food and drink will be provided at all sessions. We are also exploring the possibility to offer childcare during the full-day session at the Brussels Parliament.

The sessions themselves will be busy and exciting, but participants will not have any “homework” between the sessions.
